EMPOWERING RETIREMENT: SGA STANFORD GROUP EQUIPS NSSF STAFF WITH RETIREMENT PLANNING SKILLS.

In early September 2024, SGA STANFORD GROUP had the privilege of conducting a transformative five-day training program on retirement planning and entrepreneurship for staff members of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) at Corridor Springs Hotel, Arusha. The training aimed to prepare staff for life after employment by equipping them with essential tools to plan financially, explore entrepreneurship opportunities, and invest wisely.
A HOLISTIC AND PRACTICAL TRAINING EXPERIENCE
The program was uniquely designed to combine four days of intensive in-class training with a practical outreach session, where participants visited successful business projects initiated by retirees. This real-world exposure inspired participants by demonstrating tangible post-retirement possibilities.
Topics covered included;
- Understanding about retirement, life post retirement and retirement planning
- Creating a personal retirement plan
- Understanding expected pension benefits
- Recognizing investment and business opportunities
- Low-risk financial investments
- Entrepreneurship success factors for retirees
- Managing assets and talents during retirement
The training also tackled challenges commonly faced by retirees and offered practical solutions, including alternative pathways for those unable to venture into entrepreneurship. Participants received free consultations and tailored guidance to help them launch or grow their own income-generating initiatives.
ONLINE REFLECTION AND MENTORSHIP SESSION
To complement the face-to-face engagement, a follow-up online reflection session was held on 11th September 2024 via Google Meet. During this session, participants shared their experiences implementing their retirement plans, received mentorship, and were introduced to UTT AMIS investment opportunities. This extension ensured that the learning translated into real action and sustained impact.

Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed how the training had reshaped their mindset about retirement, boosted their confidence in starting/ scaling businesses, and helped them build realistic financial and personal development plans for life after formal employment. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE TRAININGS
Participants strongly recommended the program be scaled to benefit more staff across NSSF among other organizations and suggested;
- Conducting the training at age 50 or earlier
- Extending the training to five full days plus one day for outreach and another for investment-specific guidance.
- Continuation of post-training support through regular mentorship and access to funding/investment advisory
